A very warm welcome from Teresa and Eugene, who made us feel at home in their lovely house near the Gap of Dunloe. Our only negative was that it was too isolated with regards eating out at night if you didn't want to drive. SSSSS

Theresa was very friendly and couldn't do more to please us ,she very kindly booked our trip for us to the gap we had lovely day.The room and breakfast were very nice and the views from the dinning room of the mountains were stunning, the only thing to make it perfect which we missed would be to have a tea tray in the room. We were visiting the area to attend a family wedding at the local parish church. Theresa and Eugene were very welcoming making you feel very much at home. They are very knowledgeable about the locality even offering suggestions for locations for good locations for wedding pictures. We really enjoyed our stay at the Wayside.SSSSS

An excellent place to stay - very hospitable. Would have preferred the rooms with tea making facilities, but Theresa provided us with hot drinks in the guests lounge. Kate Kearney's Cottage just down the road was very handy for a good evening meal and live Irish music/dancing. Lots to see and do in the area. We would certainly stay here again.SSSSS

As a tourism business in Kerry we at Wayside are conscious of the impact that our business and our guests have on the environment. We are committed to minimising this impact whilst maintaining an excellent level of service for our guests and not compromising the quality of their holiday.
We aim to:
Comply fully with all relevant environmental legislation.
Minimise the consumption of fossil fuels through reducing the use of electricity and oil in our property for heating and lighting.
Ensure that any new purchases such as electrical appliances are at least 'A' rated and are well maintained.
Minimise the flow from cisterns, taps and showers by installing new efficient systems or displacement devices.
Cut down on the amount of waste we produce and where this is unavoidable reuse and recycle as much waste as possible, taking advantage of the local council services and facilities.
Change to greener products and supplies such as fair-trade teas and coffee, sustainable paper items and eco friendly cleaners.
Be of value to the local community through participation in local groups, events and encouraging charity donations.
Encourage low carbon travel and activities by providing local walking, cycling and public transport information for our guests as well as highlighting excellent watersports and nature trips that Kerry is famous for (Skellig Trips).
Encourage our guests to experience the best regional food (Kerry lamb, Clonakilty black pudding etc) and culture (Cahersiveen Festival of Music and the Arts, Kenmare Walking festival).
Continually improve our environmental performance and also be recognised by the Green Tourism Business Scheme (www.greentourism.ie).
We hope that our guests appreciate our unspoilt part of Ireland as much as we do and that they will help us maintain its natural beauty.

SOUTH KERRY VISITOR CHARTER
Feel good on holiday
We are working with the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) to make
South Kerry more eco-friendly, but we need your help. We can all reduce our
impact on the environment by making choices. As a visitor you have a very
important role to play in helping us to conserve our natural assets and
become a more sustainable destination.
Here are our recommended tips on how you can help:
Reduce energy by switching off lights and closing windows if heating
is on. Sustainable Energy Authority Ireland provides information on
what you can do at home. www.seai.ie
Give the Car a Rest
Leave the car behind, if only for a day. Walk, cycle or use public
transport. We will happily provide you with advice. Bus Eireann Irish Rail
Use local products, they give you a flavour of the area and help
support local communities. We are fortunate to have some fantastic
producers of food, drink and arts and crafts. Find out about local
markets or local and regional produce Kerry Framers Markets
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Try to avoid overly packaged goods and say no to that extra carrier
bag. You can also support the destination and businesses in their
efforts by using recycling facilities provided. Ask us as we have
information on what you can recycle locally.
Be Water Wise
Ireland has rising costs for water treatment and flood defence so
please use water wisely. Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth
and adhere to towel policies or other water saving initiatives. www.taptips.ie
Help us to look after the landscape and wildlife by not littering,
guarding against fire and using footpaths and cycle-ways
responsibly. Ensure you adhere to the principles of Leave No Trace
when out in the countryside. www.leavenotraceireland.org.
Support Green Businesses
There are numerous businesses in South Kerry working to reduce
their carbon footprint through the GTBS. Choose green
accommodation when you are booking your holiday in South Kerry. Green Tourism Ireland www.greentourism.ie
